WHO WE ARE
We're Erin and Matt, and we've spent 24 years and 31 countries figuring out that the best part of any trip usually isn't on the itinerary.
We've been traveling together almost as long as we've been married, and somewhere along the way it stopped being vacations and started feeling more like a way of life. We're not "tick every sight off the list" people. We'd rather spend an extra hour at a market stall eating something we can't pronounce than rush to the next UNESCO site. If you want to really know a place, you have to know its food first, that’s our whole philosophy.
We call the big ones Lifetime Pities. The places you've dreamed about since you were a kid, the ones you'd genuinely regret never seeing. From the Pyramids of Giza to the beaches of Thailand to the very top of the world in Finnish Lapland, we've been slowly crossing them off. But the moments we talk about most aren't always the landmarks. It's the Egyptian man who walked us through the real Cairo. The meal that had no name and wasn't on any menu. The alley we turned down for no good reason that turned out to be the whole trip.
Matt captures it all. I write it down. And we're honest about both, including the parts that didn't go as planned.
A lifetime pity is a place you dreamed of visiting
and never did. Your list never gets shorter.
You cross one off, you add three more. It's this beautiful, never-ending thing — and that's exactly how it should be.
